Archiving Is for Everyone: A Community Conversation and Pop-Up Archive

  • Greater Denton Arts Council 400 East Hickory Street Denton, Texas, 76201 United States (map)

Who decides what gets remembered?

Join us for an evening exploring how individuals can preserve the stories, objects, and histories important to them. We will be joined by archival educators, community archivists, and audiovisual preservation specialists, including members of the Our Refugee Stories Archive.

Event Schedule

Panel Discussion (6:00 PM to 7:00 PM): A one-hour conversation on community-centered approaches to archiving, teaching and learning about archives, and preserving audio and visual memories.

Activity Station 1: Hands-On Pop-Up Archive (7:00 PM onward): A practical session where you can learn by doing. Bring one meaningful item, such as a photograph, letter, recording, or keepsake, or simply bring a story to share. You will learn how to record and describe your item, create a digital copy through digitization, and apply basic preservation techniques.

You will leave with new practical skills and a digital copy of your own archival record. Participants may also choose to include their item in a special one-night community archive display.
